Area Baseball Teams Compete at 2016 Peshtigo Summer Slam

This past weekend 37 teams competed in 4 separate divisions at the East Side ballparks on Stephenson Ave in Peshtigo. The boys of summer enjoyed great competition, food, and weather.
In the 10u division, the Peshtigo Bulldogs started strong with a close 5 to 4 victory over Marinette Friday night to kick off the tournament in the 9 team field. On Saturday morning, Coleman clawed up the dawgs for a 9 to 2 victory. Sunday, Peshtigo was seeded 5th in the winners bracket but Mishicot outslugged them 13 to 3 to finish off the 10u Peshtigo bulldogs. Coleman was seeded 2nd but also was defeated in the semi-finals on Sunday by the Green Bay Heat. Champion in the 10u bracket, Sturgeon Bay, crushed Green Bay Heat 11 to 5 in the championship game. Other local teams in the 10u division were Menominee, who went 1 -1 in pool play. Seeded 6th, they were knocked out by Green Bay Heat 10 to 8 on Sunday morning.
Wausaukee was 0-2 in pool play lost to Menominee 7 to 6 and Green Bay Heat 14 to 7 but then downed Pulaski 16 to 4 in the 10u Consolation bracket. Wausaukee then fell to Marinette in the consolation game. Marinette also lost to Coleman 12 to 4 in pool play.
Eight teams competed in the 11u division. The young Bulldogs finished pool play 2 and 1 and were seeded 4th after beating Menominee 12 to 0 and Mid County 12 to 2, and losing to Sheboygan 12 to 4. Sunday, the young bulldogs were faced once again with playing Sheboygan and again came up short. The Diamond Dawgs of Sheboygan went on to defeat DePere 9 to 5 in the Championship game. DePere beat Green Bay Heat to reach the title game.
Wausaukee defeated Sturgeon Bay 8 to 0 but then lost to DePere and Green Bay.
Menominee lost to Peshtigo 12 to 0, Sheboygan 8 to 1, and Mid-County 13-11.
Twelve 12u teams competed in pool play on Friday and Saturday. Sunday the top 6 moved into a single elimination Gold bracket while the remaining teams competed in the Silver Bracket. Peshtigo, seeded 2nd after defeating Mishicot 18-0 and Beaver Pound 10 to 3 were shut out on Sunday by Freedom 12 to 0. Freedom would go on to win the 12u Gold division 8 to 4 over North Fond du lac.
Beaver/Pound lost to Peshtigo then crushed Mishicot 21-4 before losing to Freedom also 10 to 3.
Marinette defeated Menominee 8 to 2 and Wrightstown 9 to 4 before losing Sunday to Luigis' Hitmen.
Menominee tied Wrightstown in pool play 3-3, lost to Marinette, and moved to the Silver bracket. Seeded 9th, they captured wins versus Mishicot, Wrightstown, and Bonduel for the 12u Silver Championship.
In the 8 team Babe Ruth Division: Peshtigo defeated U.P. Sluggerz 7 to 4 on Friday night then lost Saturday to Ashwaubenon 14's 7 to 2. Sunday's third place game saw the Bulldogs defeat Menominee 5 to 3. Menominee crushed Green Bay Southwest 12 to 1 but lost to eventual champion Wausau River Rats 7 to 1. Other teams competing were Escanaba, Green Bay Southwest, and Ashwaubenon 14/15's.
