Wednesday evening at East Side Ball Park in Peshtigo, the Marinette Redbirds took on the Peshtigo Predators. Due to the Legion regional tournament being held at Pedersen Ball Park in Marinette, the game was moved to Peshtigo. Marinette, however, was the home team
Jordan Powers and Cody Bezio walked in the third inning for Marinette before Austin Belonga blasted a three-run homer to give the Redbirds a 3-0 lead. Solid defense and pitching held the Predators empty in the fourth before the Redbirds scored again. Marinette scored five runs on four hits and two walks increasing the lead to 8-0. In the fifth inning, Riley Hegg singled and scored for Marinette adding to the lead, 9-0.
The Predators scored three runs in the sixth inning as Trevor Seewald led off with a single. Russell Smith followed suit with a single of his own before Austin Marquardt singled to score Seewald. An error allowed the ball to get past the catcher and score Smith. Marquardt scored on an Aaron Schlies single cutting the lead to 9-3.
Austin Belonga and Ryan Woods singled in sixth inning and Scott Eldredge reached on an error. Belonga and Eldredge scored before Welsi Rivera crushed a two-run walk-off home run to enforce the 10-run rule. Marinette won 13-3 in six innings.
Matt Hanson earned the complete game win for the Redbirds, while Russell Smith took the loss for the Predators.
Hegg led the way at the plate for Marinette with a two-for-three day. Smith and Marquardt paced Peshtigo with one-for-two evenings.
