Area Runners Shine at Shawano InviteIssue Date: September 14, 2016
Oconto Falls' boys cross country team placed second at the 20-team, 156 runner Shawano Hawk Invite Saturday behind a balanced team effort.
Evan Konitzer (17:36.4) led the way, finishing 19th overall. He was followed closely by a slew of teammates, as Noah Ludemann (17:55.9), Aaron Kurth (18:09.9), and Brody Schindel (18:11.3) placed 29th, 33rd, and 34th, respectively. Evan Roberts finished 43rd with a time of 18:30.5, and Justan Konitzer took 47th, running a 18:34.0. Brent Wolf (19:15.0) finished 80th and Brendan Konitzer (20:06.1) finished 113th to round out the Panther finishers.
Peshtigo finished 11th overall, with Cole Trimberger putting forth another strong effort. He finished 13th, running a 17:23.5. Tyler Lund (18:31.9) finished 44th, just ahead of Reid Marquardt (18:37.5), who finished 54th. Next across the line for the Bulldogs was Cyle Michalski (18:54.8), finishing 65th. Jack Collins (21:17.8) took 140th and Trevor Miller (22:15.0) took 151st for Peshtigo.
Marinette's runners finished 19th, led by Carson Polomis (17:16.4) and his 11th place finish which was best for area boys. Jacob Micheals (19:29.5) finished 89th, Jordan Wendt (20:05.1) took 112th, Tony Courchaine (20:42.1) took 129th, Leif Hareid (21:14.6) took 139th, Jeremy Wendt (21:23.9) crossed in 142nd, while Quinn Golueke (22:31.8) and Eddie Paulsen (24:57.5) finished 153rd and 154th, respectively.
Coleman did not field a complete team, but did have runners compete. Kasey Casper finished first among them, taking 23rd with a time of 17:43.6. Miles Kremsreiter took 32nd, running an 18:01.7. Caleb Gross (18:34.6) took 48th, and RJ Duckert (26:22.9) took 155th.
Green Bay Preble won the varsity race, with all eight runners finishing in the top 35. They also had the second and third-place runners.
Lead Area Runners
Marinette's girls team finished ninth in the field of 20 teams and 152 runners total. Kimberly Carviou finished seventh overall, running a 20:06.5. Chloe Lambie (20:54.9) took 17th. Katelyn Kitzinger (22:07.4) took 43rd, Makennah Jasper (23:10.7) took 85th, and Mariah Boye (23:21.1) came in 90th. Keeylee Floriano (25:13.7), Madeline Torkko (25:14.1), and Sabrina Svboda (25:56.5) rounded out the Marine finishers, coming in 130th, 131st, and 136th, respectively.
Peshtigo came in 11th overall, led by strong efforts from 8th-place finisher Mariah McDonough (20:10.7) and 22nd-place Alana Finger (21:07.7). Viola Smith took 48th with a time of 22:16.8), Mariah Powers (23:07.4) came in 80th, and Sidney Gullicksen took 116th, coming across the line with a time of 24:17.6.
Oconto Falls finished one place behind Peshtigo, in 12th. Breanna Sadowski (21:51.7) took 39th to lead the Panthers across the line. Ashley Keuken (22:16.5) finished 47th, Autumn Canavera (22:44.7) took 64th, Megan Loberger (22:56.8) came in 72nd, Kennedy Kratz (23:38.8) took 96th, Maddie Kurzynske (23:45.0) came in 102nd, Grace Williams (24:25.0) took 118th, and Haley Bell ran a 27:06.5 to finish in 142nd.
Gillett had four competitors in the girls' varsity race. Lauren Herzog (21:13.3) finished in 25th, Becca Brehmer (22:45.9) took 66th, Kathy Bierhals (24:39.6) finished 122nd, and Ana Grover took 132nd with a time of 25:40.7).
Clara Yoap was Coleman's lone runner, and she finished 16th with a time of 20:53.9.
Green Bay East won the varsity race, followed by Hortonville in second.
Three Peshtigo girls competed in the 150-runner junior varsity race. Audrey Lewis (25:33.0) took 48th, Brooke Lemke (28:29.1) finished 109th, and Tanya Ihander (29:58.8) finished in 130th.
Four Coleman girls saw action in the JV race Tessa Torreano took 68th in 26:27.15, Alondra Herrera finished 106 in 28:20.14, Jada Smith was 133rd with a time of 30:09.58 and Amanda Champagnes time of 31:41.35 was good for 144th.
Four Oconto Falls girls ran in the JV race. Hannah Fontaine (27:37.5) finished 98th to lead them. She was followed by Taylor Nowinski (29:21.2), Katie Kurth (29:21.8), and Emily Gonnering (29:24.5), who finished in rapid succession, taking 120th, 121st, and 123rd, respectively.
In the 15-team boys' junior varsity race, Oconto Falls finished fourth. Mitchell Barrett (20:21.1) took 34th out of 174 racers, Dylan Nelson (20:33.7) took 40th, Jared Van Haren (20:38.5) took 43rd, Bryce Peterson (20:40.5) finished 47th, Ethan Cunningham (21:19.6) came in 68th, Wylie Howey (21:28.1) came in 72nd, Josh Johnson (22:41.4) took 108th, Liam Funkhouser (24:57.2) finished 152nd, Matthew Loberger (24:57.2) placed 153rd, and Aaron Gonnering (26:12.1) took 166th.
Three runners competed in the JV race from Peshtigo. Euan Gillespie (23:01.8) came in 118th, Matt Jornlin (23:41.4) took 128th, and Steve Hammer ran a 26:05.9) to take 165th.
Three runners competed in the JV race for Marinette, led by Colin Nygren, who finished 121st with a time of 23:05.8, Anthony Pohaska took 126th, running a 23:38.9, and Nick Kehoe (24:59.1) placed 155th.

Girls Third at Bonduel
The Oconto Falls boys cross country team captured 2nd place and the girls team came away with third at the Bonduel Invitational on Tuesday. The Panthers Evan Konitzer led area boys to the finish line with a runner-up time of 17:19.61, teammate Aaron Kurth finished sixth in 17:43.07. In the girls race Ashley Keuken from Oconto Falls finished in sixth place overall with a 21:26.29 clocking followed closely by Gillett's Lauren Herzog who was ninth in 21:41.30 to lead the area girls. Freedoms Travis Reiter was the boy's champion with a time of 16:31.69. The Irish also claimed the top spot in the girls race as Lauren Vosters took home the gold in 20:04.69. The Freedom girls took the top five spots to finish with a perfect score of 15 for the team title. Omro had five runners in the top 10 to grab the boy's team championship.

At West DePere Invite
Coleman sophomore Kasey Casper claimed second place at Thursday's West DePere Invitational with a time of 18:01. Teammate Miles Kremsreiter finished 13th in 19:21. Caleb Gross was 18th clocking in at 19:36.
