Slowing down a high-powered Luxemburg-Casco offense was not easy, just ask the Marinette Marines after their Tuesday night showdown. Averaging 80.2 points per game, the Marines held the Spartans to just under that mark at 76 points. The problem arose when Marinette had a difficult time scoring in the final few minutes of the contest.
Marinette led most of the contest against L-C, including obtaining a 69-65 lead on a Jake Poetzl layup with just under three minutes in the game. But it was key baskets from Spartans Bryce TeKulve and Mitchell Jandrin, coupled with misses from the charity stripe for the Marines that proved deadly for Marinette. TeKulve stole a Marine pass and scored a layup with just under 30 seconds to put L-C up by five. Matt Wagner hit a three for Marinette with 13 seconds left, but Jandrin came through in the clutch with two free throws for the Spartans. Wagner again struck from behind the arc as the buzzer sounded, but the Marines fell 76-75 in a thriller.
For Luxemburg-Casco, Jandrin led with 27 points, Jon Deprey had 19 and TeKulve pitched in with 16.
Marinette's Jake Poetzl led all scorers with 28 points, Jordan Wendt added 16, and Connor Nelson scored 13.
