FIGHT BLAZE"Firefighters were busy Sunday evening, Jan. 29 battling a house fire at N2140 Dahl Road in the Town of Peshtigo. Firefighters from 5 area departments responded.
Fire Destroys Home In Town of Peshtigo
Five area fire departments battled a stubborn house fire in the Town of Peshtigo, Sunday evening, January 29. Town of Peshtigo Fire Chief, Mike Folgert stated his department received the call to N2140 Dahl road at approximately 6:30 pm.
Upon arrival town of Peshtigo firefighters found the two story home completely engulfed in flames. Assistant fire chief Rich Seils immediately called for a MABAS box alarm bringing in fire departments from the City of Marinette, City of Peshtigo, Grover-Porterfield and Town of Little River.
James Mollus, who owns the home and was living there with his girl friend at the time if the fire. They were able to safely get out of the home. According to Folgert, the fire started in the basement of the home and spread rapidly to the other floors. Mollus tried to extinguish the fire after his girlfriend smelled smoke but he was unsuccessful. They then tried calling 911 but their phones did not work and ended up going to a neighbor's residence to alert authorities.
Folgert stated, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Town of Peshtigo Fire Department and a true cause may not be determined due to the extensive damage. Firefighters remained on scene until 12:30 am and were later called back around 4:30 am to extinguish some hot spots. No injuries were reported. In addition to the fire departments, Emergency Rescue Squad, and Bay Area Hospital paramedics also responded.
