Gregory F. Gritt
Gregory F. Gritt, 71, of Gillett passed away Saturday, Feb. 11 at home after a short illness.
Born June 7, 1945 in Saint Charles, Ill., to the late John A. and Carol M. (Norris) Gritt, he served in the United States Navy for two years. He lived in the Gillett most of his life, where he farmed and drove truck until retiring in 2007. He married Melissa Anderson on March 15, 2002 in Gillett.
In his younger years, he loved music and was part of his family band called The Stompers and later joined a well-known Country Band called True Grit that played around the Green Bay and Howard/Suamico areas.
He enjoyed Allis Chalmers tractors, cutting firewood, mowing lawn, cards, his beverages, smoking cigarettes and feeding the birds and animals, but mostly time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Missy of Gillett; five children, Shantelle Gritt of Arizona, Travis (special friend, Tina) Gritt of Krakow, Troy (special friend, Vicky) Gritt of Illinois, Shane (Sue) Peters of Suring and Josh (Kelly) McMahon of Green Bay; a brother, Gordon of Manitowoc; two sisters, Gail (Dennis) Peot of Suamico and Gladys Dehn of Howard; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a special daughter-in-law, Cara; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Kruse; two brothers, Glenn and Gary and a nephew, Glenn "Tykie" Gritt Jr.
Visitation will be held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Friday, Feb. 17 from 2:30 p.m. until time of military rites 5:30 pm. Interment will be in Wanderer's Rest Cemetery in Gillett. He wanted everyone to be comfortable, so feel free to wear pajama pants and slippers to the visitation.
