Illma E. Young
Illma E. (Chesley) Young, 93, of Oconto, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18 at home surrounded by her family.
Born Aug. 11, 1923 in Lena, to the late William and Ida (Leigh) Chesley, she married Francis "Hans" Young on Aug. 22, 1946 and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1971. She was an assistant cook at Jefferson Elementary School for 19 years.
Active in her church, she served as Deacon, Trustee, Elder, Sunday school teacher and in many other areas. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, golfing and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Oconto, Gold Star Mothers, Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary and Red Hatters.
She is survived by two daughters, Kristine Gabriel, Lena and Susan Young, Oconto; a son, Leonard (Dawn) Young, Oconto; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, John E. Young on Nov. 7, 1967 in Vietnam; a daughter, Kathleen Young; a son-in-law, John Gabriel; three sisters, Edith Pries, Apphia Lovison and Jean Walther and two brothers, Lauren Chesley and Charles Chesley.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Gallagher Funeral Home in Oconto from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Visitation will continue at First Presbyterian Church in Oconto on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Craig Alwin will officiate with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
