Dunlap Sets Tone at State Powerlifting Competition
Austin Dunlap, a senior at Wausaukee High School and son of Robert and Janet Dunlap of Wausaukee, recently placed 1st at the state powerlifting competition held at Racine Horlick High School on March 12.
He lifted a combined total of 1372 lbs in the 242 Raw Division weight class. The total is based on a combination of three events, squat (518 lbs), bench press (336 lbs) and dead lift (518 lbs).
This was Austin's second year competing in the Wisconsin High School Powerlifting Association (WHSPA), and his first year competing raw which involves no use of assistive squat suits or knee wraps. He was also able to secure two new raw state records including his squat and his combined total, as well as tie the state record for bench press.
Austin qualified to compete at the national competition which will be held in Scranton, PA on April 2.
