Wayne R. Thoney
Wayne R. Thoney, 72, of Stephenson, Mi., passed away Sunday, March 26 at home with family by his side.
Born Feb. 23, 1945 in Daggett, Mi., to the late Joseph and Agnes (Vandervest) Thoney, he graduated from Stephenson High School where he served as class president and lettered four years in football and track. He then attended Michigan State University.
On Sept. 10, 1966, he married Carole Godfrey at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Stephenson, Mi. He enjoyed working as a farmer, was a self employed logger and worked as a med tech for the last 12 years.
He loved hunting of many different species and traveling to many places such as Colorado, Wyoming and Canada He enjoyed coaching Pop Warner Football for many years, was a life-long Green Bay Packer and Michigan State fan and was an active member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Stephenson Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carole of Stephenson; two sons, Jeff (Nikki) of Marinette and Nick (Nomale) of Menominee; three grandchildren; three brothers, Ron (Marlene) of Wallace, Mi., Larry (Nancy) of Sheridan, Wo. and Gene (Carol) of Stephenson and 16 nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee.
Family will receive friends at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Wednesday, March 29 from 4 p.m. until time of a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Precious Blood Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Fr. Ronald Timock will officiate with burial in Stephenson Township Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established with any expressions directed to Carole Thoney.
