Carol Jean Blomquist, 86, OF Anoka, Mn., formerly of Menominee, Mi., passed away Sunday, April 2 in Anoka due to complications of ALS.
Born Dec. 20, 1930 in Menominee to the late Herbert and Matilda (Rasmussen) Enstrom, she was a lifelong resident there until moving to Minnesota in 2016 to be near family members during her illness. She graduated from Menominee High School in 1949 and worked in the insurance industry until retirement.
She married Donald Blomquist on June 18, 1955 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1999. She enjoyed going to the casino with friends, cards, Tuesday night at Schooner's, outings with her birthday club, reading and cheering on the Chicago Cubs. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Menominee Post 146 and the Moose Lodge.
She is survived by two daughters, Laurie (Denis) Gromala of Sammamish, Wa. and Cathy (John) Banken of Andover, Mn.; five grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and good friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Don, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Joyce Lee, Doris Kjell and Marilyn Crane and a brother, Herbert Enstrom Jr.
Memorial visitation will take place at Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home in Menominee on Monday, April 17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a remembrance ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee. Donations can be made in her name to Spies Public Library or the Menominee Animal Shelter.
