Gerald C. White, 83, of Crivitz and Mesa, Az., passed away Friday, April 21 at Aurora Baycare Hospital of complication from lung cancer with family by his side.
Born Sept. 5, 1933 in Green Bay to Wilfred "Babe" and Rita (Conard) White, he served in the United States Coast Guard for 20 years, retiring in 1975 as a Chief Petty Officer. He served two tours in Vietnam, earning the Navy Commendation Medal (V), the Presidential Unity Citation, the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Navy Occupation Ribbon.
After military retirement, he managed the Birchwood Apartments. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and golfing in Arizona where he spent the winter months.
He is survived by a son, Cory White, Green Bay; a granddaughter; two sisters, Marlene Schadrie and Chris (Karl) Despins; two brothers, Ronald (Sue Smith) White and Dean (Linda) White; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Veralea Buchanan.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Bechtold; a brother-in-law, Jerry Schadrie; a niece, Debra Swiertz and his longtime companion, Karen Phillips.
Visitation will be at Proko Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., Green Bay on Wednesday, April 26 from 2 p.m. until time of a Prayer Service at 6 p.m. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. A memorial fund has been established.
