George F. Schmidt
George F. Schmidt, 91, of Peshtigo, passed away April 25 at the Luther Home in Marinette.
Born July 27, 1925, to the late Martin and Matilda (Jonik) Schmidt, he married the former Doris Dekker in Kenosha in 1947. He was a World War II veteran, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and five other air metals. He He worked at Chrysler Company from where he retired.
He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing and was a lifelong member of the VFW, a boy scout leader and an FFA leader for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; four sons, George (Donna), Michael (Sandi) and Kenneth all of Kenosha and John of Maricopa, Az.; two daughters, Jeanne (Karl) Becker and Therese (Richard) Salerno, both of Marinette; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Irma Lang and Margret Lockbaum.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Peshtigo on Saturday, April 29 from 1 p.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society. Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
