THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Darlene F. Strehlow
Issue Date: May 5, 2017
Darlene Florence (Schneider) Strehlow, 82, of Marinette passed away Wednesday, April 26 at the Luther Home after a 10 year courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Born July 31, 1934 in Green Bay, to the late Joseph and Florence (Raymaker) Schneider, she graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Green Bay and Misericordia School of Nursing in Milwaukee. On Aug. 25, 1956, she married David Strehlow at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wausau.
She had five children and taught them their "please, thank you, and I'm sorry".
For 19 years, she and her husband wintered in Lake Havasu City, Az. and golfed, gambled and grumbled, in that order, which led to many memories.
Her small frame allowed her to hit a straight ball, not far but accurate, with pitching and putting being her strength. She loved to dance, especially the jitterbug and they were named the best jitterbug couple at Queens Bay Condos in Lake Havasu City. An avid Packer fan, she enjoyed conversations with others about them.
She is survived her husband of 60 years, David of Marinette; three daughters, Susan A. (Rick) Pedersen of Wausau, Sandra K. (Peter) Eide of Minnetonka, Mn. and Stacy M. (Anthony) Kostick of Woodbury, Mn.; two sons, Michael D. (Jessica) Strehlow of Whitefish Bay and Steven J. Strehlow of Lexington, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Robert Jobelius and a nephew, Richard Jobelius.
Visitation was held at Thielen Funeral Home on Monday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass followed at Holy Family Parish-Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Taylor St. at 11 a.m., with Rev. Celestine Byekwaso officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum. Memorials to Heartland Hospice Care are appreciated.
