Big Win Gets Marines

Back in the NEC Race

Marinette Head Golf Coach Cary Woloway characterized the May 4 Oconto Falls Mega Meet as a "must win" to keep the team's hopes of a second consecutive conference championship alive.

After the meet, the Marines' dreams are still alive, as they showed up in a big way, besting the next two teams, Luxemburg-Casco and Waupaca, by five and six strokes, respectively.

"I told the boys "we have to win this or we're done,'" Waloway said. "They must have listened."

The Marines battled through soggy conditions, led by senior Dakota Langlois, who was the top golfer at the meet with a 37. Waloway described the senior's win as "a nice confidence booster for him."

Matt Wagner was next with a score of 39, good for third at the meet. He was followed by Mike Wagner's 43, Wus Knutson's 48 and Max Drees with a 51.

Marinette will need to win the conference championship May 17 at Thornberry Creek in Green Bay to win the conference title.
