At the May meeting of American Legion Auxiliary Marinette County Council hosted by Athelstane/Silver Cliff Unit 66 President Deanna Farley presided. Marinette County Chaplain Janet Mullard led the group in a Prayer for Peace and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, Preamble and the Auxiliary Mission Statement. Secretary-Treasurer Joan Erickson gave the treasurer's report which was put on file for audit and the secretary's report was approved as read. Four units in attendance.
Marinette County Unit membership rate is 76%. Pembine Unit 461 will be at 100% when their latest applications are processed. Peshtigo Unit 312 is at 96% and the Ninth District is in Sixth Place in Department. New member packets are available at every Marinette County Council Meeting. Unit can send in 2017 dues and process new members.
Marinette County Units published 61 articles in the Peshtigo Times and Eagle Herald.Four units with monthly reports were Athelstane/Silver Cliff Unit 66 had a successful Memorial Day Picnic and Service. Crivitz Unit 413 is doing a Walk /Run with the Post 413 in June for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder awareness. They collected over $3000 during their Poppy distribution.
Goodman Unit 325 did well with their Poppy distribution but will not have a meeting this month. Loomis Unit 476 had a Pot Luck Dinner for Memorial Day and an Induction Service for their newest junior member. Pembine Unit 461 had 16 senior and seven junior members participate in the Memorial Service. They awarded 26 I SPY STARS & STRIPS to area businesses. If unable to attend the monthly meeting, send your report to Secretary Erickson.
Iron Mountain representative Joyce Sporrer reported on the Memorial Day activities at the facility. They raised 70 flags for the day and many residents played Bingo and had a social hour. Sporrer sent a thank you to Amberg Unit 428 for hosting Bingo earlier in the month and to Crivitz Unit 413 for their donations. If an unit is scheduled to volunteer at the Iron Mountain and cannot make it, call to let them know.
The Badger Boys have returned from their 2017 session and the Badger Girls are at UW-Oshkosh. Many units will ask the 2017 Badger Girls to help with presentations.
Each Marinette County Unit received a copy of the Officer and Committee Training Guide which has a lot of good information. In other District news, the 2017 Fall In-The-Know Sessions will begin in late September. Each member that will attend needs to send in their registration by the dates shown on the form.
The June raffle winner was Joan Erickson of Pembine Unit 461 who received anl outside plant . The Marinette County Council has been able to donate $1600 this past year to support area veterans. These donations are possible because of everyone who buys raffle tickets.
The meeting was adjourned following a closing Prayer by Chaplain Mullard. There will be no meeting in July. The next meeting is Aug. 19 at Niagara.
