Violet "Grandma B" (Gilbert) Bartels, 95, of Stephenson, Mi., passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Menominee, Mi.
Born March 26, 1922 in Menominee, to the late George and Helen (Kubiak) Gilbert, she graduated from Menominee High School in 1940 and had various jobs.
She married Henry Bartels on Dec. 1, 1945 and and they lived in Stephenson and ran "Hank's Dairy" for many years. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1990.
She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crafts, taking care of her family and was a foster grandmother for 14 years. A member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, she also belonged to the American Legion Post 43 Auxiliary for 65 years.
Survivors include two children, Don (Linda) Bartels of Saukville and Ann (Roger) Younk of Stephenson; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, Dale Strahl of Wilson.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her oldest daughter, Barb (Bartels) Strahl; a grandson and two sisters.
Family will receive friends at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Friday, June 30 from noon until time of Prayers of Transfer at 1:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald Timock officiating. Burial will be in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
