Ray G. Carlson, 88, of Gillett, passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, June 28, 2017 at home of natural causes.
Born April 25, 1929 in the Town of Underhill, to Godfrey and Martha (Koske) Carlson, he attended public school and graduated from Gillett High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On Oct. 8, 1955, he married Lenea Marquardt at St. John's Lutheran Church in the Town of Peshtigo and lived most of his life in the Gillett area where he worked at Linwood Plywood and Ansorge Distributing before being employed at Proctor & Gamble Paper in Green Bay, retiring in 1993. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Gillett , he also belonged to the Gillett American Legion Post #300.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lenea of Gillett; five children, Kevin (Laurie) Carlson, Suamico and Maureen (Rick) Wollin, Lori (Richard) Schultz, Randy (Teri) Carlson and Denise (John) Hicks, all of Gillett; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett Carlson and a sister-in-law, Veronica Carlson, both of Gillett; a brother-in-law, Leland "Penny" Nicholas, Oconto Falls and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Fredrick "Fritz" Carlson; two sisters, June Carlson and Lois Nicholas and a sister-in-law, Joan Carlson.
Visitation was held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Gillett on Sunday, July 2 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitation continued at the church on Monday, July 3 from 8:30 a,m. until time of funeral services at 10 a.m. Pastor Kent Wallace officiated followed by burial with military honors at Wanderers Rest Cemetery in Gillett. Jones Funeral Service of of Oconto Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
