Michael W. Exferd, 71, of Oconto, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at his home.
Born July 22, 1945 in Oconto, to the late Alvin and Ruth (Mack) Exferd, he married Lynn Cisar on Aug. 9, 1968. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1968 on the first nuclear powered ship. He worked for Oconto County Highway Department from 1968 to 2003, retiring as Highway Commissioner.
He enjoyed watching the Packers, playing golf and hunting with family and friends. A member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, he served on the building committee and was a member of Oconto American Legion Post #74 where he served as Adjutant for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Exferd, Oconto; a daughter, Debbie (Jack) Helmle, Little Suamico; a son, Mike (Becky) Exferd, Boise, Id.; two sisters, Betty (Frannie) Warrichaiet, Oconto and Pat (Leonard) Dorner, Green Bay; a brother, Clayton (Beverly) Exferd, Green Bay; a sister-in-law, Chris Exferd, Oconto; a brother-in-law, John Schultz, Oconto; special family member, Amy Zerbe, Oconto and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Janet Exferd, Carine Springstroh and Mary Schultz and a brother, Jim Exferd.
The family received relatives and friends at Gallagher Funeral Home in Oconto on Friday, July 14 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation continued at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Rev. Joel Sember officiated with burial in Oconto Catholic Cemetery with Military Rites by all Oconto Veteran organizations. Memorials can be made to Holy Trinity building fund.
