Town Wagner Clerk Resigns Effective Aug. 8
At the Wagner Town Board meeting on Wednesday July 12, board members present included chair Lynn Hickey and supervisors Mollie Arthur and Allen Sievert.
Also attending were Melissa Christiansen (Clerk), Toni Goldschmidt (Treasurer), Jim Hickey (Public Works), Thomas Arthur (Fire Chief), Darcy Hermes, Todd Hermes, Bill Woodward, Gerard Micksh, Steve Renikow, Rita Renikow, Mike Caylor, H.H. Anderson, Ken Limberg, Mike Allison, Shirley Allison, Dave Brissette, Rick Gullickson, Bruce Meyhoff, Dale Burie, and Lea Jane Burie.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Hickey, followed by Pledge of Allegiance and approval of agenda.
Among board updates include asphalt Old Rail Road between County Road X to Borderline Road repair. The project will cost approximately $198,900 which will limit the amount of patching, grading, brushing, etc. on other town rRoads.
Hickey received Christiansen's letter of resignation with her last day of service Aug. 8. The Board thanks her for all the years she gave to the Town. Christiansen in turn thanked everyone for their support the past 14 years, and said she has enjoyed working for the town.
Fire Chief, Thomas Arthur, thanked Christiansen on behalf of the Fire Department, and said she will be missed, as did Chief Election Inspector, Rita Renikow.
Dale Burie spoke about the efforts from the Coalition to Save the Menominee River and opposition against the Back 40 mine.
Minutes were approved as was treasurer's report.
Fire Department had no calls, but 28 man hours were accumulated and two trucks were in the Wausaukee Parade and instead of sirens they played music like "Proud to be an American".
Among Public Works updates were ran dumpsite, temporary repair of culvert on 4 Lakes Road, checked other culverts for proper water flow and cleaned as needed, check tri culvert bridge on Cottage Lane, moved barricades back into place and cleaned debris out of tubes.
Also cut trees on Bach, Berg, Old Rail, Borderline, Grand Rapids, and Boat Launch Roads, filled pot holes on Goll and Broennenberg Roads, cleaned up dumpsite, hauled scrap metal and recycles, checked logging operation on Packard and Baker Roads. Had culvert installed on Baker Road by logging company also had them make a temporary repair on Packard Road.
Also worked on trap door at Town Hall, and met with Fire Department on possible Fire Department/Public Works Building.
Animal control updates were one call and loose cats on Packard Road.
Wausaukee Rescue Squad, Inc. is still looking for members. Might be able to work with a couple of businesses to use a few of their employees to train.
Action items include approve operator's license for Bonnie Rostad, ending June 30, 2018; approve Country Visions contract to prepay 2,400 gallons of propane at $1.209 per gallon for the Wagner Fire Department tank and Town of Wagner Town Hall Tank, and discussion only on Fire Department building.
Also discussed Recycling Center/Dump. Walk in dumpster has been removed and is staying clean and fire department building inspections were all done as far as the Fire Chief knows.
Outstanding bills in the amount of $21,467.17 were paid.
