Lena Board Okays Track Lane Timer
Lena-At the Lena School Board regular meeting Monday, July 17 at 6:30 pm in the Board Room, Jeff Heimke said coaches are split on the combined sports banquet. He will be addressing at a future date.
President Lori Dufek presided with all four consent items approved. They were minutes, agenda, vouchers, and the new and amended Board Policies 2nd Reading on student fees, fines, and charges (finances) and food services (operations).
A track lane timer was approved. The amount of money being paid out for hand timers, the timer would pay for itself in six years. The other districts have had their timers for over 10 years. This would guarantee any record times to be counted for WIAA Conference and school record timings.
The Board approved the resignation of Jeff Heimke as Boys Basketball coach. Fritz Weidner replaces him.
The new Assistant Track Coach is Lisa Misco.
The contract addendum for Driver's Education with John Knickerbocker was okayed.
Among options for track improvements were some contractors stated that the track was in great condition and they recommended the sealing and striping options. The resealing/striping from asphalt seal and repair was accepted for $10,075.
The High/Middle School Principal James Torzala reported the gym painting is completed and summer school wraps up this week. Swim lessons are a big hit and Hunter Safety/ATV and snowmobile safety classes are going well with over 20 students in each class.
Football practice starts and equipment handout is Aug. 1 at 5 pm with scrimmage on Aug. 11.
Volleyball and Cross Country practice begins Aug. 14. The fence by the football field is down waiting on pole pricing and the Board is looking into combining conference championship banners to have less hanging items on the walls in the gym.
The Wildcat Booster Club golf outing is Aug. 7, and new athletic trainer is Carley Budiac, who starts Aug. 1.
Area law enforcement and rescue will conduct an active shooter training on July 25 from 5-9 pm in the high school area.
Administrator/Elementary Principal Ben Pytleski received a WI Technology Initiative Grant of $23,100 that will go towards chrome book cart and upgrade to classroom monitors.
