Doris Jean (Dekker) Schmidt, 89, passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017 at the Luther Home in Marinette, where she recently resided.
Born Dec. 11, 1927, to the late John and Beatrice (Louret) Dekker, she married George F. Schmidt in Kenosha in 1947 and he preceded her in death by four months on April 25, 2017.
A 4-H leader for many years, she also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a volunteer CCD teacher at St. Thomas Catholic Parish in Kenosha. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanne (Karl) Becker of Tomahawk and Therese (Richard) Salerno of Marinette; four sons, George (Donna), Michael (Sandi) and Kenneth, all of Kenosha and John of Maricopa, Az.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and an older brother, Robert Dekker of Cedar Grove.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Schmidt and a brother, George Dekker.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Peshtigo on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at noon with Fr. Jess Berdol officiating. Graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo. Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home of Peshtigo is assisting the family with arrangements.
