Harry P. Peterson Jr., 80, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 surrounded by family and friends at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain, after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 24, 1937 in Chicago, to the late Harry P. Sr. and Anne (Waliczek) Peterson, he married Margaret Mary Prette on Sept. 5, 1958 in Chicago and resided there. They moved to Dunbar in 2011 to enjoy their retirement years. She preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 2013 after almost 56 years of marriage.
They owned and operated H. Peterson Decorating for many years building a successful painting and decorating company. Always quick to talk to friends and strangers, he loved making people smile and laugh.
He served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1968 and received an honorable discharge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spent hunting season at their camp in Dunbar.
He is survived by three sons, Kevin Peterson, Mount Prospect, Ill., Gregory (Kathleen) Peterson, Elmwood Park, Ill. and David (Carolyn) Alquist, Westminster, Co.; a sister, Nora (Jerry) Maculitis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob (Rosanne) Prette, Kathy (Jim) Nugent and Roxanne Prette (Jim Randolph); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Michelini.
A memorial visitation will be held at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Pembine on Friday, Sept. 1 from noon until time of a Memorial Mass at 1 p.m., with Fr. Matt Settle officiating. Roubal Funeral Home of Wausaukee is assisting the family with arrangements.
