Gary W. Virch, 76, of Oconto, passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at his home.
Born March 13, 1941, to the late Clifford and Ethel (Trippler) Virch, he taught band in Suring, Oconto and retired from Laona in 1999.
He inspired many children through music and coaching, was a former Golden Apple recipient, a WSMA judge for many years and belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Oconto, where he was past choir director and a founding member of the men's quartet.
He took care of his mother for eight years and helped give her a beautiful life. He enjoyed his pets, politics, watching the deer in his back yard and was an avid sports fan. He could be found in his favorite chair with his remote, a glass of milk with a straw and a cat perched on his belly.
He is survived by three daughters, Kerry Robertson, Illinois, Christine Gillihan, Oconto and Amy (Bryan) Puls, Fond du Lac; three sisters, Dawn (William) Picard, DePere, Vicki (John) Duescher, Peshtigo and Linda (Dwight) Ziegler, Townsend; a brother, Dale Virch, Michigan; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford "Bud" Virch; a granddaughter, Emma Puls and his ex-wife, Jeris Waldvoegel.
The family will receive relatives and friends at First Presbyterian Church in Oconto on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. until time of the Memorial Services at 11 a.m., with Rev. Craig Alwin officiating. Memorials are appreciated. Gallagher Funeral Home of Oconto is assisting the family with arrangements.
