THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Rose (Smaglick) Frederiksen, 97, of Stephenson, Mi., passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at Bay Area Medical Center.
Born Sept. 7, 1920 in Stephenson, to the late Alex and Gladys (Trappa) Smaglick, she married Willard John Frederiksen in Stephenson on Oct. 10, 1936 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1974.
A hard worker on their family farm, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and canning. Family enjoyed the holiday celebration when she hosted and prepared their favorite dishes. A skilled card player, she won many smear tournaments and enjoyed bus trips to the casino, gambling and the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Douglas (Mary) Frederiksen of Marinette; a daughter, Karen (James Dahlgren) Erickson of Menominee, Mi.; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Alice Frederiksen of Stephenson and two sisters, Mary Roberts and Alice (Floyd) Cappaert.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard John; four sons, Willard Paul, John "Jack", Ronald and Leslie; a daughter, Diane and three sisters, Bernice Gardiner, Jenny Duffrin and Clara Duffrin.
Visitation was held at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stepehson on Friday, Oct, 6 from 3 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 5 p.m. Deacon Tom Rivard officiated with burial in Stephenson Township Cemetery. A memorial fund was established.
