E. Rita (Mikula) DeGroot, 70, of Morgan, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 at an area Green Bay Hospital, following a lengthy battle with health issues.
Born Oct. 19, 1946 in Traverse City, Mi, to Vence and Eleanor (Campbell) Mikula, she attended NWTC in Green Bay for Nursing and married Joseph John DeGroot, Sr. on July 16, 1966 at St. Joseph Church in Green Bay.
She worked as an LPN for many years at Sharpe Care Nursing Home in Oconto Falls, until health problems prevented her from working. A member of Assumption B.V.M. Parish in Pulaski, she also enjoyed belonging to the Oconto Falls Chatty Hatters Society for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, bowling, feeding her cats, sitting on the patio, the outdoors and wildlife, target shooting and the annual summer tomahawk throws, but mostly time with family.
Survivors include six children, Joe (Karen Gilligan) DeGroot, Spruce, Laura (Bill) Coppernoll, West Salem, Stephen (Barb Platten) DeGroot and Josh (Sarah) DeGroot, both of Morgan and Justin DeGroot, Rapid River, Mi.; 17 grandchildren; siblings, Mike (Jeanne) Mikula, Oklahoma, Joe (Vicky) Mikula, Michigan and Tony (Tammy) Mikula, Oconto Falls; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph on May 21, 1993 and a brother, Bill Mikula.
Friends may call at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a closing Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Church from 10 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M. will preside with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery in Oconto Falls.
