John C. Patterson
John "Jack" C. Patterson, 93, of Oconto Falls, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 11, 2017 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Oconto Falls.
Born April 26, 1924 in Oconto Falls, the second of five sons to Walter and Ethel (Borst) Patterson, he grew up there where he attended public schools and graduated from Oconto Falls High school in 1942. He served as a gunner commander on an M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyer, 671st Army Battalion of Pacific Theatre Operations during World War II. After an honorable discharge, he earned a teaching degree at UW-Madison.
On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Evelyn "Evie" Meyer at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls, where they lived. He taught high school in Amberg, Suring and Kewaunee before becoming a textbook sales representative, retiring in 1986.
He was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. An avid golfer, he belonged to River Island Golf Club in Oconto Falls for many years and also enjoyed golfing in northern Michigan and Wisconsin, especially with his son-in-law Eric. He loved dogs and was a lifelong proud Democrat.
Survivors are a daughter, Sherri Stein and two granddaughters, all of Mendota Heights, Mn.; three great-grandchildren and special family friend, Donna Spang.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evie on Sept. 12, 1999; an infant son, Steven John Patterson; a special son-in-law, Dr. Eric Stein on March 24, 2011 and four brothers, Neil, Tom, Jim and Mike Patterson.
Visitation was held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls on Monday, Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiated with burial in the Church Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Kingdom Come Food Pantry, 520 N. Locust St. Oconto Falls, WI 54154 or the Oconto Area Humane Society, 150 S. Katch Dr. Oconto, WI 54153. Jones Funeral Service of Oconto Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
