Donald L. Champagne, 73, of Pound, passed away Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017.
Born July 12, 1944, to the late Neary and Frances (Deforest) Champagne, he was a member of the famed Coleman wrestling teams of the 60's under Coach Jim Douglas and won the Wisconsin State Championship at 112 lbs in 1963. He married Patricia Peterson on June 20, 1964 and they spent 45 years together until her passing on March 1, 2009. He worked as a cabinet maker for most of his life at Goodell Hansen Cabinets in Oconto Falls.
An avid Packer and Brewer fan, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildrens sporting events, but most of all enjoyed retirement and being with family.
He is survived by two sons, Chris and Rich (Connie) Champagne both of Pound; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren a brother, Jerry (Sue) Champagne of Coleman; a sister, Janette Bader of Pewaukee and three sisters-in-law, Darlene Peterson and Lois Peterson, both of Kenosha and Joan Champagne of Pound.
In addition to his parents and wife, Patricia, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald, Ray and Darrell; two sisters, Shirley and Pam; three brothers-in-law, Alvin Peterson, Marvin Peterson and Ralph Peterson and six sisters-in law, Margaret Gabriel, Helen Warder, Norma Snyder, Audrey Schaefer, Alice Johnson and Betty Dalgliesh.
Visitation will be held at Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home in Coleman on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 3 p.m. until time of a Memorial Service at 6 p.m., with Pastor Mark Kostreva of Safe Haven Community Church officiating.
