William "Bill" Hooker Caley, 81, of Stephenson, Mi., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, surrounded by family at Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette.
Born Aug. 16, 1936 in Menominee, Mi., to the late William and Florence (Hooker) Caley, he married Ann Cavill in 1958 and they raised four sons.
On Feb. 18, 1989, surrounded by family and friends, he then married Linda Salfai in Lake Tahoe, Ca. and for the past 28 years lived in their Menominee County home.
He spent his early years in Menominee, graduated from Menominee High School in 1954, from Dartmouth College in 1958 and spent two years in the United States Marines. He began his business career with S.S. Kresge Company (K-Mart) and in 1964, the family returned to Menominee where he worked at Juttner Insurance.
He purchased the insurance business from the Commercial Bank in 1965 and formed Twin City Service Agency, which grew to 16 offices throughout the Upper Michigan and northern Lower Michigan. The couple worked together until retiring in 2003.
Active in the community, he was a member of the First Nation Bank Board of Directors, Masonic Lodge, M&M Yacht Club, Henes Park Board, Pop Warner (Youth) football coach and lifetime supporter of the Menominee Maroons and Merce Cunningham Dance Company.
He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting season with friends and family. After sailing 25 races in the Chicago-Mackinac, he earned the honor of "Old Goat" status.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a brother, Bruce (DJ); four sons, Bill (Lisa), Brian (Patricia), Christopher and Thomas (Petter); eight special grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a special daughter-in-law, Dawn Caley-Bigger.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas.
A Private Remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held. Donations can be made to the Love Lights Tree at BAMC, 3100 Shore Dr. Marinette. Thielen Funeral Home of Marinette is assisting the family.
