THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Swede Town Shed Damaged by Fire
Issue Date: December 6, 2017
The Town of Little River Fire Department was dispatched to a shed fire at 8065 Swede Town Road at 9:08 on Dec. 5th.
When firefighters arrived they found the shed fully engulfed in fire. The fire was near several fuel storage tanks. Power lines were also burning, falling down and arcing. Engine 1511 deployed two 1-3/4" attack lines and did exposure protection while waiting for Wisconsin Public Service to disconnect power to the area. Little River then requested MABAS Division 137 Box 15-12 to the Working Still Level. Oconto Fire and Ambulance along with Lena Fire Department assisted.
Marinette County Division 144 units which included Grover Porterfield, Town of Peshtigo and City of Peshtigo were canceled before arriving on scene. Little River and Oconto personnel attacked the fire once Wisconsin Public Service disconnected the power.
Little River Ladder 1511 responded to the Old 41 Dry Hydrant but access was blocked with a downed tree across the driveway due to the high winds. Ladder 1511 then responded to the North Bay Shore County Park Dry Hydrant.
Approximately 15,000 gallons of water was used to control and overhaul the fire plus 10 gallons of foam. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be accidental in nature. The high winds also contributed to extreme fire behavior conditions, according to Chief Jonathon Ladwig.
