Florence G. (Kostrova) Mikkola, 102, longtime Champion resident, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee, where she resided for the past three years.
Born Oct. 12, 1915 in Pound, to the late William and Molly (Tachic) Gretzon, she grew up on the family farm in Pound and helped in operating the farm. She first married Albert A. Kostrova and they raised three daughters, Marilyn, Violet and Deloris. He preceded her in death in 1970 and she then married Emil Mikkola in 1972 and he preceded her in death in 1994.
A longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion, she enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, going for rides, including long Sunday trips and making cookies and patchwork quilts for family and friends. Optimistic on life, she never wanted for anything, had a warm smile that greeted everyone and was loved by all.
Survivors include three daughters, Violet Krummi and Deloris Bentti, both of Michigamme and Marilyn (Stuart) Laitinen of Champion; a brother, Marvin Gretzon of Pound; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, Albert and Emil; two brothers, Walter and John Gretzon, two sons-in-law, George Krummi and Emil Bentti and two great-grandchildren, Shaun and Brent Krummi.
Private funeral services will be held at Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Kaiser officiating. Interment will take place in the Spring at First Baptist Cemetery in Pound. Memorials can be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church, 110 Poplar St., Republic, MI 49879
