Douglas G. Elsner, 87, of Green Bay, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018.
Born Feb. 19, 1930 in Green Bay, to the late Vilas and Vera (Brunner) Elsner, he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed on the Island of Okinawa and later in Korea. On April 19, 1952 he married Mildred G. Steebs at Zion Lutheran Church in Eland. He worked as a traveling salesman for O & E Machine for many years, retiring in 1995. In his sales career, he traveled and saw much of the world.
A member of the Masonic Lodge Washington #21, he was a Past Master of the lodge in 1978 and also belonged to the VFW Bellevue Post #9677 and was a life member of The Woods Golf Club as a member of the "Golfing Gourmets". He was the first to be inducted as an honorary member of the club's Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed trout fishing, stream fishing, deer hunting, and cards. In retirement he loved time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and wife.
He is survived by four children, Gregory (Carmen) Elsner, Belleville, Ill.; Steven (Sharon) Elsner and Scott (June) Elsner, both of Green Bay and Todd (Julie) Elsner, Crivitz; a daughter-in-law, Claudia Elsner, De Pere; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; a son, Douglas Elsner Jr.; two brothers, Warren and David; two sisters, Eve and Naomi and many other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends called at the N.E.W. Masonic Center, 525 N. Taylor Street on Wednesday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. until time of the Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Larry Zochart officiated with burial in Norrie Cemetery. Proko Wall Funeral Home of Green Bay assisted the family with arrangements.
