Helen M. (Onischick) Yunke, 97, of Marinette, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at the Renaissance. She was colon cancer survivor from 1963.
Born Sept. 27, 1920, to the late Jacob and Petronlia (Szilondz) Onischick in Racine, she attended elementary school in Wausaukee and then moved to Marinette. On Sept. 13, 1941, she married Otto "Brother" F. Yunke Jr. in Marinette and he preceded her in death in October of 1980.
She worked at Victory Bag, Schreiner's Restaurant in Marinette, Badger Piston and Scott Paper Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1987.
A member of Holy Family Parish, she enjoyed knitting, textile painting, reupholstering furniture, picking berries, canning jam and was an avid sports fan, both pro and watching her children and grandchildren. After retirement, she enjoyed bus trips to the casinos.
She is survived by two sons, Bob (Mary) Yunke of Green Bay and Pat (Lee Ann) Yunke of Grafton; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Otto, she was preceded in death by two sons, Marv and Jerry and a sister, Ann Miller.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette on Friday, Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 12:30 p.m. Fr. Celestine Byekwaso will officiate with burial in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
