Rose M. DeGayner, 91, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Rennes Health Care Center surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Born Dec. 12, 1926, in Muncie, Ind., her mother, Viola Mae Caylor married her father, Edward Delfosse in 1925 and she had three sisters and five brothers. She attended Wausaukee High School and graduated in 1944. She married Robert E. DeGayner in 1946 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1997.
She loved children, they kept her busy and was there for those that needed her most. The family pillar of strength, she was humble, gave her love to those she cared about, had a sweet spirit and all that knew her adored her. She was a stay at home Mom for many years until working at Peter Piper Nursery, then full-time at the Box Shop in Marinette until retirement.
She looked forward to Sundays attending Twin City Baptist Church where she enjoyed the preaching and the singing of hymns. After church she enjoyed watching the Packers.
She is survived by seven sons and daughters, David, Ann (Scott) Carter, Mitch, Alan (Leah), Ross (Jeri-Lynn), Donna DeGayner and Gena (Jon) DeGayner; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three brothers, James (Betty) Delfosse, Harold (Elaine) Delfosse and Merle (VirJean) Delfosse and two sisters, Patricia (Mike) Howayeck and Mary (Jerry) Peters.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Irene (Joe) Nolde; two brothers, Dale (Julie) Delfosse and Eugene (Laverne) Delfosse; her first five children that died in a house fire on Dec. 23, 1953, Michael, Patricia, Gary, Daniel and Stephen and a son, Jan (Jane) on Nov. 8, 2016 at age 60.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette on Friday, March 2 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Twin City Baptist Church, 911 Elizabeth Ave. Marinette on Saturday March 3 at 11 a.m.
