Howard Joseph Heusinger, 95, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at Agrace Hospice.
Born May 15, 1922 in Marinette, to Marie (Mech) and Joseph Heusinger, he attended Garfield School and graduated from Marinette High School in 1940. He worked at Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company where he met his future wife, Joyce Shefky and they married July 29, 1944.
In 1943, he took leave from his job and served in the United States Army Signal Corps. for 2-1/2 years. He then returned to Marinette to work, raise his family and build their first home.
In 1956, he was promoted several times at Wisconsin Bell. The family moved to Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Madison then back to Milwaukee where he was a network planning and engineering manager for all the central offices of the state. After 42 years with the company, he retired in 1982.
He took pride in his accomplishments, family, friends and in helping others. He was a scoutmaster, a member of the Knights of Columbus, president of St. Vincent de Paul Society (Mukwonago) and served his parishes as a council member, lay minister and usher.
An active member of the Telephone Pioneers of Wisconsin, he was proud of service projects they completed over the years. In November 2011, the Pioneers helped facilitate his memorable Badger Honor Flight to Washington DC. In later years, he had a talent for wine making and enjoyed treating his family and friends to his wine.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with friends and family and after retirement took up cross-country skiing and curling. An avid fan of the UW Badgers, he attended football games until recently. He also liked the Green Bay Packers and the PGA, but most importantly was sharing in the lives of his family and praying for them each night.
He is survived by four children, Margaret (Robert) Brown, Mary Jacobs, Marsha (Paul) Beloungy and Steven Heusinger (Susan Draper); 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. George (Marge) Heusinger, Norfolk Ne. and Vernon (Ethel) Heusinger, Marinette; two sisters-in-law, Marian Mansfield and Bette Trempe; many nieces; nephews; cousins and dear friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; a son, Howard J. Heusinger; a grandson, Steven Joseph Heusinger and a sister, Marjorie Hanson.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 405 S. Owen Dr., Madison on Thursday, March 8 from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Fr. William Nolan will preside with entombment in Resurrection Cemetery in Madison, followed by a lunch at the Church. Memorials can be made to Queen of Peace Endowment Fund, St. Vincent de Paul Society or Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care Madison. Cress Funeral Cremation Services of Madison is assisting the family with arrangements.
