LaVerne "Dolly" E. Nelson, 92, of Fon du Lac, formerly of Marinette, passed away Thursday, March 8 at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.
Born Jan. 15, 1926 in Marinette, to Frank and Josephine Girard Brix, she attended Marinette High School. She married Leon Nelson on May 11, 1946 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1995.
During World War II, she supported the war effort by working at Lloyd's Glove Factory in Menominee, Mi.
A member of the Sweet Adelines Barbershop Chorus, she was a good example of strength and fortitude. She raisied 13 children while her husband was on the road, handling situations with grace and a down-to-earth attitude that her children admired.
She is survived by seven sons, Randall (Cheryle), Kerry (Mary), Erick, Alan (Judy), Chris (Kelly), Keith and Craig; six daughters, Andrea Nelson, Lynne (Michael) Conley, Michele (Dennis) Haensgen, Mary Beth Shepherd, Valerie (special friend, Jason Schroeder) Klebs and Dawn Nelson; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank Jr., Robert, Myril, Vernon and Gerald and five sisters, Phyllis, Marjorie, Dorothy, Maryette and Shirley.
A private family gathering will be held at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac on Tuesday, March 13 at 11 a.m., followed by a Liturgy of the Word at noon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
