Kitty (Herta) (Radke) L. Sandgren, 98, of Suring, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 with family by her side.
Born Nov. 9, 1919, to the late Albert Radke and Clara (Bobert) Radke in Marshfield, she grew up in Stratford and was the youngest of eight children. She graduated from Stratford High School and married Dr. Gilbert Sandgren in 1936, a physician who provided medical care to the Suring area in the 1950s and 1960s.
She worked to support her husband through medical school and provided administrative and nursing support to his medical practice until his passing in 1967. She then lived and worked in Palm Desert, California for many years.
A wonderful hostess, cook and baker, she enjoyed her lake cottage and left family and friends with many memories of swimming, water-skiing, playing badminton and cards, and eating many meals she prepared.
She enjoyed the outdoors and time with her grandchildren, who for many years addressed every card, postcard and package to "The Best Grandma in the Entire World".
A member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Suring, she will be remembered as a selfless, caring, thoughtful, smart and loving person to all.
She is survived by a son, Gilbert (Karen) Sandgren; a grandson and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert and seven siblings Herald, Adele, Betty, Anne, Claire, Walter and Elsie.
Visitation will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Suring on Friday, March 16 from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Michael Paholke will officiate with interment in Mount Olive Lutheran Cemetery. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home of Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation and/or the Mount Olive Lutheran Church in her name.
