Elizabeth "Betty" Sladek, 93, of Marinette, passed away Saturday, March 10 at the Luther Home.
Born Sept. 11, 1924 in Marinette, to the late George and Myrtle (Kanter) Sladek, she graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1942 and worked two years at Joe Maurer Printing Company and also as an office assistant for eight years at Dr. Burridge's Dental Office in Menominee.
In 1955 she worked at Lauermans Department Store as "Chief Time Keeper". She assisted the office manager with all personnel matters. In her 31 years there, she made many lifelong friends.
She was proud to own her Tudor style home on Carney Boulevard that her family had purchased in 1917 and she maintained it alone until 1986.
An avid sports fan, she enjoyed playing cards, traveling, especially her trip to Europe and watching the Packers, college football and college basketball. She loved dogs and owned several breeds in her lifetime. An active member of Holy Family Parish, the Altar Society and the Hospital Auxiliary, she will be remembered for her deep faith, compassion and service to others. She cared for her family, which her nieces and nephews admired.
She is survived by six nieces and nephews and their children: Claudia (Mark) Nienow, Cathy (Randy) Schmidt, Mark (Sarah Shores) Kerski, Chris (Beverly) Kerski, Monica (Guy) VandenLangenberg and Maggie (Sean) Cronin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Sladek and Rev. Robert Sladek and a sister, Mary Jeanne (John) Kerski.
Visitation was held at Thielen Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at noon at Holy Family Parish Our lady of Lourdes Church Taylor St. Rev. Celestine Byekwaso officiated with burial in Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette.
