Issue Date: May 17, 2018
Republican Party of Marinette County Chairwoman Shirley Kaufman received the Alvan E. Bovay Award on May 12 at the Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention in Milwaukee. Alvan E. Bovay was the founder of the Republican Party.
Each year, the "Bovay" honors an especially deserving individual from each of the eight districts in the state. It is a prestigious award given in recognition of outstanding dedication and service over the years to the Republican Party.
With letters of recommendation from 8th District Chairwoman Kelly Ruh, 8th District Vice Chairman William Berglund and 8th District Congressman Mike Gallagher, Shirley was presented the award at the state convention and was personally congratulated by Governor Scott Walker, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin and Republican Party of Wisconsin State Party Chairman Brad Courtney.
Kaufman has been involved with the Republican Party since she was 17 years old. For more than six decades, she has served as Marinette County Vice Chair and Chairwoman more times than can be counted. She was also Vice-Chairwoman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District. Kaufman has worked tirelessly to make the Marinette County party an enduring force in the 8th District and in the state. Her sense of humor, her loyalty and her fierce dedication to helping grow the party through grassroots conservatism and aiding candidates and elected representatives in their campaigns, is what makes her so incredibly deserving of this honor.
