David Jon Fernstrum, 84, of Tucson, Az., formerly of Menominee, Mi., passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 in Tucson.
Born May 4, 1934 in Detroit, Mi., to the late Robert and Caroline (Kneutsen) Fernstrum, he moved to Menominee with his family in 1950. He attended Missouri Military Academy in eighth through tenth grade and graduated from Menominee High School in 1952. He was married to the former Nancy Szmik for 42 years until her death in 2003 and later married Natalyiya Gentry.
He was Vice President of Exports for R.W. Fernstrum and Company, was a Rotarian, member of the Wishigan Camping and Hikers Association and belonged to First Presbyterian Church.
A strong supporter of River Park Campground and the Menominee Animal Shelter, he enjoyed camping and loved his dogs and cats.
Survivors include his wife, Natalyiya of Tuscon; a brother, Paul (Sandra) Fernstrum of Menominee; two nephews, Sean and Todd; two great-grand-nephews and three great-grand-nieces.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Wallace in 1985.
A private graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee with Pastor Jon Nelson officiating. Anderson Kell Funeral Home of Menominee is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials can be made in his name to Menominee Animal Shelter, N185 Haggerson Court, Menominee, Mi. 49858
