Rangers/Badgers Face Off in Regional Final Today

Issue Date: May 31, 2018

Coleman Win Over Gillett/Suring

The Coleman Cougars took a win over the visiting Gillett/Suring Hornets Thursday night 8-0.

It was all Coleman all the way as the Cougars swatted out two runs over the first inning, another two in the third and three over the fifth while finishing strong with a final run in the sixth.

Cole Would posted two hits and three RBIs for the Cougars while Blake Forner had two hits. Zack Manning posted two RBIs.

Austin Marquardt took the mound win with eight strikeouts over his 5.2 innings. He also threw 18 first pitch strikes.

Gresham Sets Down STAA/Lena

The Gresham Tigers ended the STAA/Lena Cavailers' season Friday night when they took down the visiting Cavaliers 12-1 in regional action.

The Cavvies' Jack Farley started the game off with a single and made it home for the first run of the game. Unfortunately for the STAA/Lena boys it would be their only run of the night.

Gresham on the other hand had a slew of runs cross in the first. They took four runs in the first, one in the second, five in the third while ending with a two run fourth.

Coleman Advances With Win Over Three Lakes

The Coleman Cougars took on three Lakes Tuesday night in WIAA Regional action. After seven innings the Cougars were victorious by a narrow 3-1 margin.

Cole Woulf posted two hits on the evening along with an RBI. Zack Manning also posted an RBI.

Seth Seefeldt took the mound win for the Cougars with 10 first pitch strikes and five strikeouts.

Niagara Slams Elcho In Regional

The Niagara Badgers posted a resounding win in their round of the WIAA regionals, taking down the hosting Elcho Hornets 12-1

Niagara's hitters could not be stopped as two crossed home in the first followed by a four in the second and three more in the third for the early 9-0 lead exiting the third.

Niagara posted one run on the bottom of the fourth while Niagara was able to muster up another three in the sixth.

Josh Weber took the mound win with one strikeouts. He allowed no hits, run or walks over his two innings.

The loss was taken by Elcho's Jack Lazers who gave up nine hits, nine runs (two earned) and one walk while striking out seven.

Oconto Knocks Crivitz Off Tourney Trail

The Oconto Blue Devils traveled to Crivitz Tuesday night to take on the Wolverines for a WIAA regional playoff contest. After seven innings the Blue Devils had bagged the win 7-0.

Oconto controlled the plate on both ends all game long. Their first run came in during the second while one run crossed in each of the next two innings.

Entering the fifth inning with a 3-0 lead the Blue Devil's continued to build the gap as two runs piled across in the fifth and another two in the sixth of their seven point readout.

Jaden Werner was saddled with the loss allowing six hits, seven runs (one earned) and four walks while striking out four. The win was taken by Oconto's Bennett Frazier who struck out five while giving up only three hits and one walk.

At the plate the Wolverines' Jaden Werner, Vinnie Jopek and Charlie Johnsen were all one of three.

The Blue Devils' Zach Sherman led the way at the plate with a two of three showing with two runs and two RBIs.

Schroeder No-Hitter Advances Rangers Over Florence

The Wausaukee Ranger Baseball team must have wanted to get home early last Tuesday as they blanked the visiting Florence Bobcats 13-0 in WIAA Regional play.

All of Wausaukee's 13 runs came across during the third inning while no other runs were tallied in any of the other innings.

Andrew Schroeder took the mound win for the Rangers striking out a whopping 11 Bobcats while allowing no hits or runs over his five innings on the mound.

Braden Boettcher took the loss for Florence allowing four hits, five earned runs and six walks.

At the plate the Rangers' Justin Parr was three of three with one run and one RBI. Aiden Shaw was two of two with two runs and three RBIs while Schroeder was one of two with two runs and three RBIs.

Seymour Says No To Peshtigo in Regional-Semi

The Seymour Thunder hosted the Peshtigo Bulldogs for a division two regional semi-final Tuesday night which they took by way of a narrow 2-1 margin.

A heartbreaking loss for the Bulldogs, o doubt, but a hard fought game none the less.

With both teams defenses playing exceptionally well its nbc wonder the score remained so low.

Seymour scored one run in the first inning when lead off hitter Yolz was hit by a pitch. A few hitter later, he skirted home for the 1-0 lead.

Peshtigo tied things up during the top of the seventh when Darren Dionne reached off an error and was brought in during Travis Plym's at bat.

But a single Thunder run in the bottom of the seventh spelled defeat for the Bulldogs. That last run was tallied by Seymour's Cornell, who reached first on an error, advanced on a wild pitch and scored for the win.

"I'm very proud of our team and what we accomplished this year. Today leaves a bitter taste in our mouths because it was a winnable game," said Peshtigo head coach Neal Henrigillis. "But we never gave up and our guys battled to the very end." "We have to give Seymour credit they had a good game, their pitcher was tough as nails and their catcher threw out 3 guys stealing they really limited what we do best as a team today." "At the beginning of the year as a team we set some goals; win conference (we did), win a regional game (we did). Today we proved to ourselves and to other teams in our regional that they can't overlook Peshtigo baseball." "Our four seniors Brock Bero, Riley Reif, Mitchell Ahrens, and Trevor Bloch I can't say enough about them as people. They are great young men and will be successful in life and that's what matters most. They've given a lot to Peshtigo Baseball and I'm happy i can say I've coached them."

At the plate Dionne was one of two with one run while Trevor Bloch and Nick Nelson both went one of three.

Dionne took the mound loss allowing one walk, one hit and one earned run.

Reif Leads Bulldogs Past Marines in Tourney Play

A big day from Riley Reif helped propel the Peshtigo Bulldogs to an 8-2 win over Marinette in Thursday's playoff matchup between the two familiar foes.

Reif went 3-for-3 on the day, smashing a home run and doubling for the Bulldogs. Nick Nielson went 2-for-4 with a double.

The Bulldogs scored a run in the first inning, but Marinette quickly took a 2-1 lead in the second on a two-RBI single from Tyler Fayta, who had three hits in the game.

Those would be Marinette's last runs of the game, however. Reif homered in the third to even things up, and it was all Bulldogs from there. A Marinette error started things off for the Bulldogs in the fifth, as Nielson got two RBIs to regain the lead for Peshtigo.

Peshtigo left no doubt in the sixth, getting four runs from the bottom half of the order.

Bulldog Darren Dionne was the winning pitcher, going three scoreless. Matt Eldredge took the loss. In 5 1/3 innings, he allowed seven runs on seven hits and four walks. Only four of the runs were earned, as Marinette had a few errors that helped Peshtigo break things open.
