What patriotism means to me
Patriotism means that you are an individual who supports, loves, and is devoted to your country. A patriotic person is loyal to his or her country and is extremely proud to be a citizen. People can show their love for their country in many different ways. One way is by respecting the country's flag. People show that they respect and honor the flag by standing for the Star-Spangled Banner, which is the national anthem, saying the Pledge of Allegiance, putting their hand over their heart, taking their hat off, and being silent.
People can also demonstrate patriotism by serving for their country. People are devoting their lives to their country and protecting it by serving. It takes a brave person to be willing to sacrifice their life for their country. Soldiers show their unconditional love and their devotion to the United States of America by being part of the military. They put their country first and they show their loyalty. They fight for our freedom and for what is right. Citizens can be patriotic by supporting the military and by sending care packages or simply by praying for our soldiers.
Citizens do not have to serve in order to show their patriotism. Some people do not have the capability to serve in the military and others might have medical issues too. They can still show their patriotism by being nurses for the military, being part of the Peace Corps, being involved in law enforcement, working for the government, and more. These are all important job positions that demonstrate good patriotism.
It is crucial for citizens to show patriotism on holidays too. Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Flag Day, and Independence Day are all major holidays that should be honored and respected. People show their loyalty to their country by celebrating these holidays. Americans can be patriotic too by voting. They should vote for the candidate that they believe would do the best job for their country. Citizens are supporting their country by voting and it is also their civic duty. It is important for people to show their patriotism. Patriotism makes the United States a better place to live in by having citizens demonstrate their love and support for their country.
Megan Wiedemeier, Crivitz
One nation under God, indivisible with Liberty and justice for all " that iswhat patriotism means to me. I find the last line of The Pledge of Allegiance to be the utmost, quintessential definition of patriotism.
One nation under God. Our founding fathers based their morality off of God and The Bible. God is the basis of the most influential documents written by our founding fathers. I believe that is one of the most important factors in how our constitution, Ple3dge of Allegiance, and Declaration of Independence were formed.
Indivisible " I find that patriotism also means this. The United States of America, although fifty individual states as one nation. Patriotism is shown through indivisibility, in hard times and easy. With the increase in mass shootings I believe it is more important than ever to support the people of the communities these horrific things happen in.
With liberty and justice for all. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are three things that this country will always be home to. Loving the United States because it gives us those three privileges, is necessary. Currently with the Black Lives Matter movement, it may be different for some people to see. However, when you are a United States citizen you are prearranged a long list of rights, and everyone should be undeniable appreciative for that.
