Alfred F. Runge Jr., 84, of Gillett, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at his son's home with family by his side.
Born Feb. 8, 1934, to the late Alfred Sr. and Alma (Patzer) Runge, he attended school until eighth grade until leaving school to help on the family farm. At age 14, he got a drivers license and drove milk truck. He served in the United States Army and married Alice Kmecheck on Dec.28, 1964. He worked as a General Motors mechanic at several local dealerships and became an avid beekeeper for 17 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Proud of his Advanced Class Radio License he received in May of 1981, that allowed him to communicate with people all over the world. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; a son, Martin (Kathy) Runge; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, David Runge and Paul (Rose) Runge; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Franklin, Richard, Fredrick, Hope and Marcus.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz from 4 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 6 p.m., with Pastor Michael Paholke officiating. Interment will be in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery at a later date. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home of Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials are appreciated to Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz.
