Hundreds at Silver Cliff Fire and Rescue Auxiliary Parade and Picnic

Hundreds of adults and children attended the 41st annual Silver Cliff Parade and Picnic on Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Silver Cliff Memorial Park. Thanked are those who planned the activities and events, workers, sponsors, advertisers, attendees and anyone who helped in any way to help make the day a big success.
The parade, which began at 10 AM, included Post 66 Legion and Legion auxiliary members, area fire department and rescue squad vehicles, antique cars and tractors, area business floats and many politicians. There was a large variety of food, refreshments, tournaments and games for both children and adults. Music was provided all afternoon by Sherry Woger and the Paddle Wheel featured many donated items. There were Bucket, two 50/50 and a Party Wagon raffles. Betty's Country Store was filled with donated baked and canned goods, as well as craft items, plants and fresh produce for sale.The fire department sponsored a children's competition, teaching ways to deal with and extinguish a fire in the home. In the afternoon was a propane fire demonstration and a booth with Vietnam memorabilia.
Winners of the Horseshoe Tournament were Roger Packart and Pat Filkey of Athelstane. There was also a Bean Bag Tournament. The winner of the first and second 50/50 raffles were Al Krueger and Wayne Huss, and a Party Wagon was won by Kelly Heiden. The money raffle winners were Sheri Warner $1000; Wayne Zeske $600; Jacqui Heuma $500; Karen/Pat Alsteen $400; Ron Diny $300 and Leon Wlekinski $200
Parade float winners were Tri-Fitness-Best in Class; Timber Chords-1st place; Silver Cliff Fire and Rescue-2nd Place and Fire Lane-3rd Place.
Proceeds from the picnic are used to support the Silver Cliff Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
