Donna Lou Atkinson, 79, of Menominee, Mi., passed away in her sleep on
Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018 at her home on 16th Ave.
Born June 22, 1939 in Findlay, Ill., to the late Peter and Rena Britton, she was a homemaker most of her life, helping her husband, Roger, raise three children before she worked for the Superintendent and then the athletic department at Menominee Area Public Schools (MAPS).
She supported her husband of 60 years as he was transferred to 15 cities in five different states in the 1960s and 1970s.
They moved to Menominee in the mid-ඎs and loving the town and its people, they settled into the house where he still lives.
Besides raising a family and working, she was active with the MAPS School Board for several years, belonged to the PEO and was a founding member of the Menominee Church of Christ.
A long-time fan of Menominee High School (MHS) sports, she was the MHS football bell-ringer for many years at Walton Blesch Field. She enjoyed quilting and antique collecting.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; a son, Bryan (Elaine) of West Bloomfield, Mi.; two daughters, Lori Atkinson and Lisa LeBoeuf, both of Menominee; four grand-daughters and a sister, Shirley Cribbet.
Visitation will be held at Cadieu Funeral Home in Menominee on Sunday, Aug. 26 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Donations are appreciated for the Alzheimer's Association.
