John C. Larson, 94, passed away Aug. 26, 2018 at Rennes Health Care Center-East.
Born April 4, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., to William and Rose (Seaborg) Larson, he grew up in Denver, Co. and joined the United States Marines in 1942, receiving a Purple Heart during his service in four major battles in the Pacific, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Siapan and Tinian.
In 1947, he moved to Milwaukee where he married Rita Kulik and she preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 1971.
In July of 1972, he married Muriel Mennen and moved to Menominee. Mi. and she preceded him in death in 1992. In February 1993, he then married Greta Henes and continued to live in Menominee.
He worked as an officer for the Milwaukee Police Department and retired from Alan Bradley Manufacturing. He enjoyed golfing and caddied at age 13 in Colorado for Adolph Coor. He also enjoyed watching the Menominee Maroons and college and professional football and basketball.
Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Lydiard; his wife, Greta; two daughters, Linda Larson and Kari (Jim) Retzloff; a son, Randy Larson; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Letey; six step-children, Marguerite (Pete) Thyne, Kelle (David) Diges, Tom Henes, Robert (Sharon) Henes, Michael Henes and Joseph Henes; 10 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Chris Larson and a step-son, William Henes.
Per his request, a private ceremony for family and friends will be held at Holy Spirit Church.
