Allen R. Urbaniak, 77, passed away and into the Lord's arms at his home on August 23, 2018.
Born in Marinette, he joined the US Army and in 1959, he was stationed in Korea with 1st Calvary Division as an Aviation Maintenance Technician. After his military service, Allen gained his pilot's license and learned skills in various careers including working at the Eagle Star, starting a family dairy farm, owning and operating a machine shop, tending the Menekaunee bridge, and retiring with Marinette County at age 72.
A member of the American Legion Post 312 and lifetime member of VFW Post 8813, he served in leadership roles in both organizations. He participated in humanitarian trips to Antigua and Haiti to help those affected by disaster.
Allen completed a 12 mile Tough Mudder course in 2013 with his daughter, raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project. He spearheaded efforts to construct a veterans walkway and to erect monuments to honor WWII, Korean, and Vietnam veterans.
Allen's involvement in veteran and community affairs resulted in being awarded the Marinette County Legionnaire of the Year in 2010 and Peshtigo Area Chamber of Commerce Richard Roland Person of the Year Award in 2014.
Allen enjoyed animals, downhill skiing, gardening and volunteering. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Allen was an aviation and motorcycle enthusiast. He was a EAA lifetime member and enjoyed attending the annual event.
He enjoyed taking trips on his motorcycle across the U.S. and Canada and had many collections from around the world. Allen was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Allen is survived by his wife, Linda; 3 sons, Robert (Ann), Steven and Jodi (Vicky); 2 daughters, Jacalyn (Russell) Wilburn and Jami (Clifton) Bullock; a sister, Joan Hetcher; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Charlotte Urbaniak; his brother, John "Jack" and his son, Jeffrey.
Services were held Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marinette. His body was laid to rest at Peshtigo Riverside Cemetery. Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home of Peshtigo assisted the family with arrangements.
