Hansen/Polomis Top Area Runners At Irish Waters Issue Date: September 6, 2018
Marinette senior cross country runner Carson Polomis bested some tough competition Friday at the Irish Waters Invite in Freedom.
Polomis was the fourth-fastest runner of 228 on the day with a time of 16:55.01, the best time in the 111-runner large school race. The second-fastest time was Appleton North's Tommy Flood's 17:02.91.
Teammate Matt Maye took 31st in the large school race (18:26.10), followed closely by Jacob Micheals (18:28.31). Tyler Fayta was 79th (20:13.90), Quinn Golueke took 92nd (20:58.98), freshman Cody Cohan took 99th (21:26.87) and Colin Nygren was 110th (25:22.35).
The Marine boys were eighth of 16 large schools.
Oconto Falls took 10th in the large school race. Brody Schindel was 27th of 111 (18:18.45). Freshman Joe Adams took 37th (18:39.56), Brendan Konitzer was 54th (19:24.61) and Brent Wolf was 59th (19:35.86).
Dylan Nelson took 70th (19:50.22), freshman Isaac Raddatz took 86th (20:38.31) and Bodee Woods placed 108th (22:21.22).
Coleman's boys team took ninth of 17 small schools. Of 117 runners, Kasey Casper was 15th (18:10.17), Caleb Gross took 22nd (18:46.40) and Koltin Grzybowski was 44th (19:42.86). Freshman Karson Casper took 75th (21:40.04), Bryce Karban placed 82nd (22:02.69), Sam King placed 86th (22:19.09) and Seth Seefeldt came in 90th (22:44.17).
Peshtigo's boys took 12th. Caleb Smith took 14th (18:09.96), Cole Trimberger took 24th (18:50.76), Reid Marquardt came in 32nd (19:21.37), Matt Jornlin came in 94th (22:02.55) and Euan Gillespie came in 111th (25:41.42).
Crivitz placed 16th as a small school. Freshman Joey Pickett was the team's top finisher in 68th (21:03.21). Ryley Bemis placed 97th (23:14.79). Freshmen Jacob Behrendt (24:24.91) and Chad Schroeder (24:25.36) were 102nd and 103rd, respectively and Liam Roman took 105th (24:49.83).
Gillett did not have a full team, but they had the top local finisher in the small school race, with Derek Hanson taking ninth (17:50.11). Riley Engebretson took 50th (19:58.19) and freshman Conner Hanson was 55th (20:27.48).
Wausaukee did not field a full team either. Devin Verstrate was 37th in the small school race (19:33.38), Andrew Schroeder was 54th (20:08.80), David Forst was 108th (25:16.94) and Danny Gottebeheut placed 112th (25:46.15).
Marinette's girls were 10th of 16 in the large school race. Katelyn Kitzinger was ninth of 105 runners in the large school race (20:48.48). Samantha Pieper was 25th (21:54.58) and Kimberly Carviou took 28th (22:06.73). Freshman Molly Knutson took 87th (25:58.54) and freshman Hadley Reines was 90th (26:24.71). Madeline Torkko was 97th (27:42.23) and Makennah Jasper placed 98th (27:45.07).
The Oconto Falls girls were 13th in the large school race. Autumn Canavera was 23rd at 21:53.51 and Breanna Sadowski placed 36th (22:42.61).
Grace Williams was 72nd (24:56.57), Morgan Van Haren was 92nd (26:47.73), Alyson Fabry took 93rd (26:49.31) and freshman Aspen Canavera took 101st (29:27.28). Katie Kurth was close behind in 102nd (29:59.59).
Peshtigo's girls were sixth in the 14-team small school race, but Gillett's Sylvia Hansen stole the show. The Tigers didn't field a full team, but Hansen, a sophomore, was first in the race and second in the field overall.
She finished the race in 19:39.58, best in the small school race by 24 seconds, topping the 103-runner field. Freshman teammate Amber Brehmer was 69th (27:03.39), Itty Ciancio was 100th (32:59.53) and freshman Angela Mosconi placed 102nd (33:36.06).
For Peshtigo, Viola Smith was 25th (24:15.79), freshman Sydney Lund placed 26th (24:16.01) and Emily Halfman was 29th (24:21.09). Freshman Salsabeel Salem was 62nd (26:27.99) and freshman Jessi Swiatnicki took 71st (27:11.08). Brooke Lemke was 82nd (28:36.99).
Coleman's girls were 10th in the small school race. Ember DeWitt was 33rd (24:44.78), freshman Sara Seefeldt was 45th (25:06.59) and Molly Seefeldt was 48th (25:24.99). Mariah Payette came in 58th (26:16.02), Megan Seefeldt was 73rd (27:18.39) and Mariah Mursau took 92nd (30:51.73).
Wausaukee did not have a full team, but Madelyn Schlies was the 20th-best runner in the small school race (23:35.65) and Kaelyn Schlies was 27th (24:20.29). Haley Piontek took 98th (32:27.51) and Quincee Schultz was 99th (32:54.61).
For Crivitz, Bella Galindo was 24th (24:05.37). Riley Roman was 51st (25:37.04) and Zoey Brown was 56th (26:06.84).
Suring Competes in Algoma C.C. Meet
The Suring Eagles Cross Country team, along with the ST. Thomas Aquinas/Lena team and the Oconto Falls' crew all traveled to Algoma for an evening of running that saw Olivia Noack of Suring capture the evenings best finish for area runners.
Noack took part in the Women's 1.5 mile run and finished with a silver medal with a time of 10:01 She was pushed by teammate Megan Wagner who finished in third just seconds behind Noack 10:05. The gold medal was taken by Newchaa's Abigail Math's with a time of 9:56.
During also got another bronze medal finish in the women's 5k run with Ryan Wagner posting the time of 22:44 for third. Winner of the 5k was Denmark's Leah Kralovetz with a time of 19:11.
The Men's 5k run saw OcontoFalls' Josh Woller bag a third place finish with a time of 18:48, just behind Sturgeon Bay's Izaak Polecheck at 18:44 and Gibraltar's Evan Henry at 18:15.
