Maxine Rose (Hatfield) Schmoeckel, 79, of Suring, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018.
Born March 17, 1939, to the late Orville and Emma Hatfield in Mountain, she married Robert Schmoeckel on Sept. 29, 1984 in Merrill.
She enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, time with her grandchildren and especially sewing, making many wedding and bridal party dresses over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Suring; five children, Pam (Junior) Nelson, Julia (Martin) Timm, Lisa (Robert) Yakel and Kevin (Shelly) Schulz, all of Suring, and Dale (Becky) Schulz of Hill City, Ks.; two step-sons, Paul and Aaron; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Charlotte (Glenn) Sherwood, John Hatfield, Marilu McDonald, Nellie (Bernard) Lenz, Jim (Ann) Hatfield, Wayne (Cindy) Hatfield, Arthur Hatfield, and Carlotta (Richard) Schulz; four brothers and sisters-in-law, John Schmoeckel, Mary (Steven) Raatz, Shirley (Charles) Degner and Val Slewitzski and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Nels Stromberg; an infant son, Henry; siblings, Julia and Lloyd; a brother-in-law, George; a sister-in-law, Chris and her mother-in-law, Irene Schmoeckel.
Visitation was held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed on Friday, Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral service at noon with Pastor Paul Scheunemann officiating. Interment will be in Breed Union Cemetery at a later date. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home of Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
