Joyce Phyllis (Hubbard) Peterson, 89, of Ingalls, Mi., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018 at her home of 66 years, surrounded by family.
Born Nov. 21, 1928, to Warren J. and Hattie (Schley) Hubbard in Stephenson, Mi., she attended Northern Michigan University and taught second grade in Manistique, Mi.
She then married Bert Peterson on June 25, 1949 in Stephenson and they owned and operated Bert's IGA Market and Locker Plant for 40 years. They wintered in Apache Junction, Az. for the past 25 years.
A talented quilter, her children and great-grandchildren also learned her skill of sewing beautiful quilts. She was a lifelong member of Stephenson United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bert of Ingalls; three daughters, Christine (Terry Spence) of Norway, Mi., Carol (Jeff Stults) of Florence, Or. and Barb West of Marinette; three sons, Bert Jr. (Jennifer) of Brighton, Mi., Kevin (Jill) Mooresville, N.C. and Kenney (Melitza) of Hales Corners; a brother, Warren E. Hubbard; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hubbard; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Don Hubbard; a sister, Evelyn Quarnstrom and an infant son, David.
Visitation was held at Stephenson United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. Rev. Peggy Paige officiated with burial in Mellen Township Cemetery. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Donations are appreciated to Stephenson United Methodist Church or a charity of one's choice.
