Health Care " We are going in the wrong direction
Lawmakers Creed: Maximize the efficiency of the economic engine that drives our economy while simultaneously maximizing the satisfaction of the constituents.
Our health care system is inefficient. Costs are higher than any other first world country. Overhead costs are as high as 25% while other countries have overhead costs in the single digits. NBC news recently stated that health care is the number one concern of voters " we are not satisfied.
Republican leaders in the US Congress just don't get it. They want to repeal Obamacare and cut Medicare and Medicaid. They want to get rid of coverage of pre-existing conditions so insurance companies can make more money. The Office of Management and Budget clearly indicated that the Republican plan will increase, not decrease health care costs. And, at the same time, we are filling our cemeteries with people who cannot afford to take their prescription medicines.
It's time to examine universal health care plans that are in place in all other first world countries. Germany, Canada and France have great health care for their people.
But let's not rush to support the Medicare- for-All plan that has been proposed by Bernie Sanders. Let's look at all the options. We must maximize efficiency, not corporate profits. Let's look for a fair plan that has the greatest cost reduction as measured by the Office of Management and Budget.
One thing is for certain. We will never have the best health care system if we continue to vote for Republicans. You may support their position on social hot button issues like gun control, reproductive rights and family values, but they are tethered to maximizing corporate profits. And that means no health care reform. It's your choice.
